Outline

The general outline for the workshop includes:

  1. Usability Basics
    a. What is usability and what is it not?
    b. Usability Concepts – find out what the basic concepts of usability are and how these concepts are used to design and build products that are usable.
  2. Usability Process
    a. User Research – find out how to better understand what it is your customers need and how they currently get their work done.
    b. Design – discover how to move from the product specification to detailed a drawing while taking in the full breadth of design ideas available.
    c. Implement – learn how a usability overview of the implementation process is critical to gaining the time savings that user research and user centered design offer.
    d. Test – detect before release if there are any critical issues that may prove disastrous should the product be released. See how testing the product with your customers before release provides you with insights for the next version and provides you with a go/no go status for your product.
  3. Application Design
    a. Building a team – understand how the best designs are sometimes lost in the typical process for product development (and how to remedy the situation).
    b. Design tips – good ideas and processes are great but what is their relation to the real world? In this section we will be getting down to the details of how to incorporate usability into your design.

bookThe reference book we’ll send home with you is GUI Bloopers 2.0 by Jeff Johnson. This book retails for $49.95 and is included in your enrollment fee!
