People often tell me that they’re looking for a great job. But what is a great job? One that has meaning. One that is more than just a paycheck.
That reminds me of the story of the three brick layers. This is an old story but here’s the way it was told to me…<continued>
A man is walking down the road and he comes upon three people laying bricks in the hot sun. He asks them what they’re doing and the first one replies, “What are you, stupid? I’m laying bricks.”
He asks the second worker who replies, “I’m putting up a wall that’s straight and true and will last a hundred years.”
Then he asks the third person who says, “I’m building a magnificent cathedral that will be a monument to God and inspire thousands of people.”
Any job can be a great job if you focus on why instead of what.Â
