Conference-aholic

Brent Mitchellbrent@smart-solutions.com (mailto:brent@smart-solutions.com)I have a confession to make. I love conferences. Sure, web based training is cost efficient, but it isn’t nearly as much fun or interactive. It lacks that expectation of learning that I get when I attend a conference. There is also the bonding that takes place with those whom you go with—food, fun and learning. What a wonderful combination. <continued> (conference-aholic.html)

Technology in Class

Sharon BordeSharon@smart-solutions.com (mailto:Sharon@smart-solutions.com)
My son started college last week and I am amazed by the level of technology being utilized! All of his instructors download their classroom notes to an, "on-line Blackboard" so that students can focus in class on the actual lecture, rather than taking notes by hand. What a difference this is from when I went to college in the early '80's. Classroom notes were worth quite a bit of $$$ back then, and those of us who took copious notes made quite a good living by selling them to students who either were absent from class or who had...

Jump Drive vs. Washer and Dryer

Jackie Mortell, 6/21/2010
Last year I moved all of my important data to removable media; photos, spreadsheets, joke lists... I did it so I wouldn't lose them if the laptop was stolen or the hard drive crashed. It seemed like a great idea until I left a jump drive in my pants pocket and ran it through the washer and dryer last week.
Talk about your data cleansing.
Oddly enough, the jump drive seems to be fine. My files were intact and readable. I'm still worried about rust setting in though.
Just for fun I pulled out an old 5 1/4" floppy disk and ran...

Manotee Cornettmanotee@smart-solutions.com (mailto:manotee@smart-solutions.com)
I'm fairly new to Twitter, and am often looking for information, quick tips and advice on how to use it appropriately. Here is a recent tip I thought might be useful to others as well: <continued> (twitter-tip.html)

How Do I Love Thee?

Jackie M. Mortell, 6/11/2010
I’m in love again and I’m not afraid to tell everyone about it. In fact, I insist on telling everyone. Have I shown you my iPad?

It goes everywhere with me. I make it into a piano keyboard and play “chopsticks” for strangers. I created a custom radio station for my mother with all her favorites: Judy Garland, Tony Bennet, Ella Fitzgerald. Now Mom wants an iPad. I turn on “Pocket Pond” and play with the Koi. The resolution is amazing. Maddie loaded “Godfinger” on it. I don’t understand the point of the game but I like to...
